The Arts are organized expressions of ideas, feelings, and experiences conveyed through

images, music, language, gesture, and movement. They provide sensory, emotional, as well

as intellectual and creative enrichment, contributing to a child’s holistic development.

Much of what is finest in society is developed through a variety of art forms that foster a

sense of well-being and strong cultural identities.

I believe that Arts Education enables the child to explore alternative ways of

communicating with others. It encourages ideas that are personal and inventive, and it

makes a vital contribution to the development of a range of intelligences. The Maldives

Music & Arts Center (MMAC) was established with the aim of enriching the lives of the

nation’s primary and secondary school children by promoting and facilitating the

improvement in the quality of music and the arts. MMAC also assists performing artists and

visual artists in conceiving, producing, and presenting their work in a way that benefits

themselves and the community. To this end, the center has constantly worked to cater to

the needs of the artistic community and to foster and encourage the creative talents of

school children and young adults.

Our activities are specifically targeted for school children and youth, and our objectives

include forming a mini pop band, organizing interschool talent shows, art exhibitions, arts

camps, and singing competitions. Our students are a unique and talented mix of individuals

who have come to us from various corners of the globe. We want everyone to thrive and

succeed here, academically, socially, and personally. As the Principal, it is a great pleasure

to thank all the students for being a part of MMAC and for representing MMAC in

international exams and nationwide competitions. We are very proud of you! I would like

to congratulate the prize winners and express my heartfelt gratitude to the students,

teachers, and parents who have played a role in the success of our students.

The Maldivian Music and Arts sector needs a new generation of musicians and artists who

would serve in the education and tourism sectors. It also needs talented artists who would

contribute to preserving and promoting our cultural identity. Therefore, we hope that our

students will continue to strive forward with joy and determination to become skilled and

inspiring artists.
